August 6th is National Root Beer Float Day, the one day every year when we celebrate our signature treat. A&W Root Beer and rich, creamy vanilla soft serve — it doesn’t get much better than that. So stop by any A&W Restaurant on Tuesday, August 6th for a free small Root Beer Float from 2 PM to 8 PM — no purchase necessary! Donations to DAV (Disabled American Veterans) are encouraged. Cheers! A&W has been involved with the D.A.V. since 1919.
It all started with a tiny Root Beer Stand. Entrepreneur Roy W. Allen set up shop on the streets of Lodi, California offering a brand new creamy and refreshing drink served in a frosty mug. It was a hot June day, and Allen thought his concoction would be the perfect accompaniment for the parade honoring the return of World War I veterans. His Root Beer was a hit — a unique and tasty, fresh-made blend of herbs, spices, barks, and berries that has remained a symbol of celebration, innocence, and camaraderie ever since.
A lot has happened and changed since those early days, but much remains the same. We continue to serve our signature made-fresh Root Beer in a frosty mug. On National Root Beer Float Day, we want to honor our company’s roots by continuing to provide support in the homecoming of our service members. We ask you to join us on August 6th as we celebrate National Root Beer Float Day. Stop into your local A&W Restaurant for a FREE small Root Beer Float from 2 pm – 8 pm. As part of the celebration, we will be collecting donations for DAV (Disabled American Veterans).
