The Rosewood Theater was the backdrop to the Oscar-winning movie, Anora, about a young stripper from Brooklyn, who gets her chance at a “Happily Ever After” when she meets and marries the son of a powerful and wealthy man in Russia. The movie is heavily inspired by real experiences within the sex work community, drawing from numerous stories director Sean Baker heard during his research, making it a fictionalized account with elements of truth. Baker incorporated stories and individuals from the sex work world to create a “sex worker Cinderella story” that feels authentic, heavily fictionalizing events and characters for the film.
