If you are a fan of wrestling then you are in for a treat from Ricky Greenwood and Sweetheart. Since he burst on the s cene with his award winning Confessions of a Sinful Nun, Ricky greenwood has continued to turn out some excellent features and his streak continues with this well written and performed feature. It is a dark, dramatic look behind the scenes of the wrestling world and the story of a once very popular and dynamic champion and the long road back she must travel after some bad happenings. Greenwood has assembled quite a cast of foxy females who play their parts well along with undergoing some rigorous wrestling scenes.
It opens with haunting music, dark shots of the sweat and grime of the lead character Layla (Ariel X), She is tired, she is worn down, she takes some pills and then drives off stoned. She is arrested for DUI. Then we see the Girls of Wrestling reporter, Paula (Charlotte Stokely) reporting this incident and the suspension of this wrestling star. Thus begins a spiraling tale of this wrestler and how she has to fight her way back to respectability and win over everyone who trusted and believed in her. But how will she do that now that she has been suspended and can no longer perform? Her friend, who also manages the Girls of Wrestling Nina (Nina Hartley) finds her on the street and offers her a chance at redemption .She brings her back to the gym gets her cleaned up and they have a long talk about what caused the downward fall and what can be done about it. Nina offers her a chance to serve her community service by training a bunch of amateur girl wrestlers Nina is prepping for a big show. With no other choices Layla accepts the offer and now things begin to change in many ways.
One of the girls she is working with is Sophie (Sinn Sage), who is a gifted athlete but she doesn’t take to Layla and her ways right off. There is a tension between the two that continues to build throughout the film. As Layla works with all of the other girls in the ring, Sophie wants to pretty much do things her way. But the relationship between her and Layla also hints of a more intimate side. Nina likes what she is seeing from Layla and how she has immersed herself in the role of teacher, but will it last? Will Layla be able to get these girls ready for the big night? Will her old demons return? Will she bail on Nina and let these girls down. What about Sophie and how will she respond to Layla? These are the questions that will get answered as this film moves along bringing all the drama and hard hitting action in and out of the ring. Our sideline reporter Paula keeps you abreast of everything that is going on within the Girls of Wrestling in more ways than one. It is a power packed film that will hold your interest beginning to end.
First of all, the wrestling sequences are extremely well done. These girls obviously went through some touch training to take on the roles and do some of the moves they did in the ring. Bravo!!! The writing is sharp, very believable and gives a lot of depth to the characters. While this is an all star cast of ladies, make no mistake this Ariel X and Sinn Sage carry this and are the focal point of the film. The entire cast handle their roles with total professionalism. As for the sex scenes they are varied and all top notch. The group scene in the ring is one wild, well done effort and it was very clear the girls were enjoying every bit of it.The overall premise was structured very well to keep the interest flowing from scene to scene. Once again Ricky Greenwood brings another solid feature to adult film lovers with this look at the world of wrestling. If I have one small complaint it would be the wish that somehow an audience for the ‘big” match could have been added to give it more flair. You can be sure this film will be getting worthy nominations at awards time in several categories. I very strongly recommend “Girls of Wrestling” from Sweetheart Video as a film that will give you an exceptional night of adult entertainment.
