CYBERSPACE (August 19, 2015) – California is leading the nation in transgender porn consumption, states a report by popular adult entertainment e-tail site GameLink.com. The reports numbers are based off the site’s sales.

In the past year, California accounted for 17 percent of transgender porn sales on GameLink.com, followed by New York with 7.3 percent. Texas was next, in third place with 5 percent; followed by Arizona, 4.9%; Florida, 4.7%; Michigan, 4.4%; Virginia, 4%; Maryland, 3.6%; and in 10^th place was New Jersey with 3.5%.

Of the states in the top 10, only California, New York, Illinois, Maryland, and New Jersey have laws protecting transgender persons. Texas, Arizona, Florida, Michigan, and Virginia do not have legal protections.

According to GameLink’s sales numbers, transgender porn makes up 10% of the e-tailer’s annual revenue, while there has been a 14% increase in sales in 2015.

“The growing consumption of transgender porn is also a sign that Americans are becoming more ready to accept transgender individuals than in the past,” said Jeff Dillon, vice president of business development and marketing for GameLink’s parent company, eLine.com.

In an article published by International Business Times on July 29, Dillon told the publication that transgender porn has been a catalyst for increased acceptance of transgender people.

“Over the past 15 years we’ve watched viewership of content featuring transgender performers skyrocket,” he said in the article.

Dillon added, “In the 1970s, we introduced the world to the first images of interracial [black and white] couples having sex in the movie ‘Behind the Green Door.’ This was incredibly shocking at the time, but it soon became mundane. I believe a similar connection can be made between porn and the rapid acceptance of other social/sexual shifts, including same-sex marriage and gay rights, ethical non monogamy and swinging, and now transgender rights.”
