With rising prices on everything we are all looking to save where we can, especially at the super market. For years, all of the major chains Publix, Winn- Dixie, Kroger, etc. have had their generic brands. This also holds true for Walmart and their Great Value brand and Costco with the Kirkland brand. Still today, there is a large percentage of people who refuse to buy a generic brand. It has to be a name brand or they don’t buy it for fear it is lesser quality and not healthy to eat or use.

The truth is the majority, like almost 80%, of generic brands like Great Value are made by the big name companies, so in essence you are actually buying the name brand. The main reason generic brands are cheaper is because there is zero print or TV advertising costing millions of dollars with generic brands, so they can sell cheaper and still make a profit. Here are just a few so the next time you go into Walmart or whatever your favorite super market is remember who really produces it for them.

Great Value Peanut Butter (made by Peter Pan)

Great Value White and Whole Wheat Bread (made by Sara Lee)

Great Value milk and dairy products are actually made by Walmart on their own huge, modern dairy farm in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Same goes for the Walmart flowers, plants, bushes, etc. that are grown at their own huge nursery in North Carolina.

Those are just a few, but there are many more in all types of products that are produced by the big brand names.
