new normal round isolated silver badge

As we continue to fight the COVID-19 pandemic one thing is very sure. There will be a new normal with our everyday lives once this passes.  There is no getting away from it, the way we lived in 2019 and the first month of 2020 is gone, whether we want to admit it or not. The “New Normal” is already coming into our lives with more to follow. So what can we look for? Let’s just start with some general everyday things that will become obsolete.

Elevator buttons will give way to sensors ort another electronic method so there is no touching.

Doorknobs. They will give way to motion sensors totally. They are already in place for disabled people, but it will become the norm.

Cash Registers. Cash probably holds more germs long term than anything. The day will come when only debit and credit cards will be viable.

Communal Pens. We’ve all seen them and used them in banks and elsewhere, but they will also be a thing of the past. So carry your own pen with you.

Manual Light Switches. Another item that carries plenty of germs and bacteria will be gone in the near future. It will be replaced by voice or motion activation.

Push Button ATMs. This is another item that will soon disappear. Replacing it will be voice activated machines.

Touch Activated Soap Dispensers – In public bathrooms and even the workplace, the amount of bacteria is enormous before you get the soap dispensed to wash your hands. The future will be sensor activated dispensers.

How about in your own home, what changes will you be making because of the pandemic. Here are a few of the new normal precautions experts say people will make.

Used Toys – People will much less likely to find a good, in expensive used toy at a thrift store, or even from a friend or neighbor. Even with cleaning, who knows where it may have been.

Cardboard Boxes – Knowing the coronavirus can survive on surfaces for days at a time will have people rethinking how much product packaging makes its way indoors.

Second hand clothing – We have all made trips to the Good Will or other thrift store and found some great things. But again, even with cleaning, who knows where a shirt, dress, pants, etc. may have been prior.

There is much more and next week we will touch on restaurants, travel and more. The one thing regarding restaurants that is already happening is the “buffet” as we knew it has come to an end. Sweet Tomatoes has shut down all of their buffet places coast to coast permanently and Golden Corral has announced they are shutting down all of their locations. As for the world famous buffets in Las Vegas they more than likely will undergo a massive change or be done away with altogether as well.

Check back with my “Art’s World for Part 2 of the “New Normal” next week. In the meantime, please follow the guidelines, stay well and stay safe. We WILL all get through this together.
