I just felt we had to honor this exceptional gentleman on his 79th birthday. Born July 22, 1940 in Sudbury, Ontario, Canada as George Alexander Trebeck, he has become one of the most popular and most awarded game show hosts in television history that all began back in 1963 hosting a show called Music Hop in Canada.
In 1973 he came to the states and began hosting a variety of shows for various networks. The shows included High Rollers, Double Dare, $128,000 Question, Battlestars and many others. In 1984 he was tapped to take over the new edition of Jeopardy! when original host Art Fleming declined. Trebeck has held that job ever since as Jeopardy” and Trebeck celebrate their 35th year in 2019. Between 1987 and 1991 while hosting Jeopardy! he also hosted the very popular Classic Concentration game show.
Earlier this year it was announced by Trebeck that he was in a battle with pancreatic cancer and would be undergoing painful chemo treatments. However, he also stated that he would continue to do the show and he has, somehow, managed to fight this disease, get the treatments, and still do the show. Watching him on the air now, with a hairpiece replacing his lost hair, and his still friendly manner, you would never know the pain he is in during the show tapings. The good news is that the cancer seems to be regressing and the outlook is a lot more positive than it was a few months ago. Needless to say this is one tough guy who is not giving up anything and fighting this dreaded disease.
Happy Birthday Alex Trebeck, you are one of the best in more ways than one. We wish you a full recovery and we are all looking forward to many more Alex Trebeck hosted Jeopardy! episodes, and apparently so is the good Lord above.
Side note: Jeopardy! ‘s long time announcer/side kick, Johnny Gilbert also celebrated a birthday on July 13 and it was his 95th! Yes, you heard right, Alex is 79 and johnny is 95, real proof that age is only a number.
