Safe Landings – Adam & Eve Pictures – Director – Kay Brandt – Cast – August Ames, Brenda James, Alison Rey, Xander Corvus, Marcus London, Ryan McLane
Taken from Kay Brandt’s book of the same title, this film explores the relationship of two survivors of a deadly plane crash. It also explores how the mind can be shattered by the experience and what it can lead to. The production is very well paced and put together so that you really get to know the main characters in this story and what drives them in the directions their lives take.
The film opens with Elaine (Brenda James) and her husband (Marcus London) in a very passionate and chemistry laden sexual encounter that leaves them breathless. When it is done he has to leave town on business. This gives Elaine the opportunity to enjoy her secret life in a torrid threesome with a pilot (Ryan McLane) and another girl (Alison Rey) that Elaine enjoys as well. We get some great shots of the nighttime skyline and then also some flashes of the crash that takes place. Once the crash takes place and the ensuing therapy sessions begin everything changes.
The relationship between Elaine (Brenda James) and her husband (Marcus London) change and the relationship between Jessica (August Ames) and Steven (Xander Corvus), who were about to be engaged, becomes very strained. Elaine was working that flight while Jessica was a passenger and luckily they survived the crash, but their lives are shattered. Jessica goes into a shell and nothing Steven can say or do will change her until she finally agrees to go to therapy. When Jessica and Elaine meet at the therapy sessions they begin to form a close bond with each other. It is a bond that goes beyond what either expected as they become lovers. Their need for each other after this crash becomes more lust filled and emotional putting even more of a strain on the men in their lives.
As the affair blossoms it puts the two women in a very difficult and life changing environment because of the two men who still mean everything to them and the promises that were made to them. The scenes that take place between Elaine and Jessica have it all. There is wonder, fear, desire, passion, fulfillment, pleasure and guilt. The way the story evolves all of these elements add into the total eroticism and feelings of these two women. The problem is as this relationship continues to build it also has a major effect on others. Can these two women stop the spiral the tragedy and they themselves have created? Where does this all go? How do Elaine and Jessica resolve this emotional turmoil? Who, and what matters the most?
As you know by now with my reviews, I will leave it at this point. You will have to watch this excellent production to find out the answers because I never want to spoil it for you the viewer.
The screenplay is beautifully written and the performances by the cast earn very high marks. August Ames as Jessica shows off some very surprisingly good acting chops and the chemistry between her and Xander Corvus is unmistakable. Brenda James and Marcus London are true pros throughout and the rest of the cast is superb under Ms. Brandt’s fluid direction where you are able to see the development of the characters. The chemistry between Brenda and August was also excellent providing plenty of realism and believability besides the sexual heat they shared together. The cinematography captures the very essence of this story in a very personal way.
Ms. Brandt has written and painted a visual canvas that has all the elements of what an enjoyable, hold your interest, couples friendly film can be. It offers the viewer not just a great story, settings and backgrounds, but some real chemistry filled sizzling sex scenes that are explosive. The real sexuality that oozes from the performers in the scenes is unmistakable and offers up a surprise or two as well. I highly recommend getting hold of Kay Brandt’s “Safe Landings” from Adam & Eve Pictures for some very encompassing, well defined entertainment.
