(Austin, TX / August 3, 2021) — afterglow, a leading sex-positive erotica brand for women, is tackling porn literacy education in a new Instagram campaign, alongside advocacy group Not Your Porn (NotYourPorn.com), kicking off in August.
The month-long #NotYourPorn social campaign will highlight one new themed message a week – ‘Pay For Your Porn’, ‘Sex Work IS Work’, ‘My Consent is Mandatory’/’My Body, My Consent’ and ‘IBSA (Image-Based Sexual Abuse)’ – to open up the conversation about persistent societal issues that negatively impact people’s default perception of sex and sexuality.
“Our goal is to encourage industry professionals, allies and advocates to do more in raising public awareness about cultivating a healthy relationship with sex, sex work and personal sexual empowerment, as well as supporting and promoting ethical porn,” said Lilly Sparks, CEO/Founder of afterglow. “We are using our voices to motivate change, and we are so proud to join forces with Not Your Porn to help further enact that change.”
afterglow is also publishing an informative article to complement the social campaign at xoafterglow.com/read, ‘Porn Literacy: How to Watch Porn Safely’, highlighting the finer points of sexual expression in the real world vs. onscreen performances, ethical production and paying for porn and the misrepresentation of onscreen sexuality in porn films.
Not Your Porn co-founder Elena added that the collaborative campaign “is about encouraging people to educate themselves on porn, the sex industry and pleasure rather than clinging to ill-conceived, outdated taboos and stereotypes better left in the past or, even better, forgotten out of existence.
“If the last two-and-a-bit years of campaigning has taught me anything, it is that we need to teach people – those who watch porn and those who don’t – to be porn literate, as knowledge informs our choices about pleasure and sex positivity.
“How can we expect people to think about ethical porn if they don’t know enough about porn to begin with? Partnerships between sex workers, ethical porn companies and start-ups, activists and other stakeholders, is what is needed to ensure that porn literacy is normalized.”
The afterglow adult network offers an addictive blend of news and opinion articles, discussions and helpful resources that inspires its members to openly engage and explore their most intimate, desires – with new membership starting at only $10 a month. ABOUT LILLY SPARKS:
Lilly Sparks is the founder of afterglow, a revolutionary porn company merging porn and sexual wellness and making steamy films focused on the pleasure of all participants. Sparks’ inspiration to start afterglow came from struggles in her own sex life. She longed to find resources to help her explore authentic pleasure but felt alone and ashamed.
Knowing she wasn’t alone on this journey, Sparks created afterglow to explore sexuality and support the unabashed enjoyment of sex. Prior to afterglow, Lilly was a serial entrepreneur with expertise in scaling disruptive brands, taking them from zero to millions of revenue.
During her down time, Lilly loves listening to music, being outdoors, and dancing… especially doing all three at once.
