John Holmes was a legend and icon in adult films and in his years in porn turned in some memorable performances. While most of his popularity centered on the enormous size of his manhood, Holmes also showed, especially later, that he was a capable actor as well. Hustler Magazine founder Larry Flynt purchased these never before seen films, which had been hidden away for more than 40 years by the man who directed them. Apparently the director went into mainstream was successful and hid his ‘porn” side all those years. Now everyone gets a chance to see them.
These are the first feature films by the future superstar who had only shot short “loops” prior to making actual films. These never before seen films are titled “Doctor I’m Coming” and “Balls in Action”. In one he plays a doctor, a sex therapist and the other a sports star. Other than Holmes, none of the other performers in these films are well known or ever made it beyond this point that we know of as there are no credits for either film to tell who was who. Matter of fact not even Holmes name is mentioned..
“Doctor I’m Coming” starts with a narrative about the characters with Holmes as the sex therapist who deals with nymphomania patients (really?), his ditzy blonde female assistant and two other male assistant doctors. The first scene involves an attractive slightly buck toothed redhead patient. Right off the bat you realize that the “acting” is laughable, but it’s the sex that we are interested in right? Holmes, who looks like he’s about 18, jumps right in with the redhead for the first sex scene and it’s easy to see why he would strike it rich. The movie’s “story and plot” make little sense, but the sex scenes are pretty steamy for the time. The final scene has all the participants in a whipped cream and chocolate syrup sex orgy that is messy, but sexy at the same time. Only because it is John Holmes the movie would get rated. However, as we mentioned, there are no performer credits in this release.
Basically the same situation with “Balls in Action”, very little story, some decent sex and highlighting Holmes and his appendage. He is a star athlete the ladies love and they will do whatever he asks for and of course that’s sex. Problem with a couple of scenes was you are never sure if the girl is giving him a blow job or if he actually is fucking her because of the camera angles making it look more soft core. The shower scene with two girls has its moments, but overall nothing other than Holmes to get worked up about. The girls are attractive, all natural, full bush but delivering the goods is another matter. This film also has no performer credits.
This is a 2 disc set with one disc containing the two lost titles. The other disc is the “Best of John Holmes” with seven different scenes from various Holmes movies. These scenes are worth seeing not only for the sex but seeing how Holmes also grew as a performer during his career. While I won’t rate this release, I would recommend, especially if you are a collector, getting hold of “The Lost John Holmes Films” from Hustler Video.
