This is a dramatic story that could have been done boy/girl style. Instead, Ms. Vespoli took this story and turned it into a very solid, very dramatic, very interesting all female production and didn’t miss a beat. Dana plays the title role in this story of a boxing champ, Lefty Lumaban, who gives it all up while she is at the very top of her profession. She is undefeated, has plenty of fame and fortune and a fantastic girlfriend, but she leaves it all behind. Why? That is the crux of this mesmerizing tale that will leave you wondering just how it all ends.
It begins with some rapid nighttime shots of Los Angeles and a voice over talking about the upcoming fight with Lefty. Then we see the dressing room as Lefty gets prepared for her big bout in the ring. Her girlfriend, Alexis Texas, is there and sends her off with a big kiss. Led by her handlers Lefty heads for the ring. Now we switch to after the fight and Lefty and Alexis alone in the bedroom of her home. Alexis strips down and teases Lefty until the teasing becomes real hot and heavy passion with these two in a very steamy scene.
Next we see Lefty with her agent, her manager Sully (James Avalon) by the pool as she signs up for another fight. Sully tells her she doesn’t have to sign for every fight, but she insists. Then we see her at the gym getting ready to train when one of handlers gets a phone call that Sully has died of a heart attack and that sets Lefty off as she just seems to disappear into thin air. Now we come to Erin a go getter of a journalist who wants to find Lefty, do a feature on her, find out why she disappeared and if she would make a comeback against someone who wants to fight the best.
There is a hot scene between Erin and her lover (Julia Ann) that is definitely very vocal and expressive. You will see more of Julia Ann as the arrogant, self serving woman she is later in the film. Then we see Erin is interviewing Lefty’s ex lover Alexis hoping to get the low down on Lefty and getting to meet her in person. Alexis recounts some of the experiences they had and we see on in flashback with AJ Applegate and Dani Daniels. Erin keeps running into dead ends until she gets a call from Lefty’s ex handler. Erin meets him at the gym and after a long talk and finding out a few things Erin sets out to see Lefty in person and hopes she won’t get rebuffed and can get the real story.
What takes place after that meeting in the rest of this dramatic story and the conclusion that it comes to, I will leave for you to watch and enjoy. Needless to say it does end in the boxing ring, but what happens after is a nice twist at the very end to tie a nice bow on it.
The cast is absolutely fantastic, very realistic and believable. The bit parts by James Avalon, Steven St. Croix and Jane Hamilton are perfect. The camera work, lighting and music are all on point and bring this production full circle in every way. It is also Ms. Vespoli’s way to salute the women in combat sports and how far they have come and the importance they have. This is definitely a film that will be in the awards nominations race in several categories. The film may be an all female movie from a sexual standpoint, but it is a film whose story will be enjoyed by everyone offering up, drama, excitement, steamy sex and above all, excellent adult entertainment. I am very happy to have “Lefty” as my Friday 4 Star Feature here on AAN.
